CHESAPEAKE, VA (April 5, 2000) CollectingChannel.com (http://www.collectingchannel.com/)
a large converged Internet content provider in the collecting and
antique space, announced today that beginning in May they will be
adding an online appraisal service to their impressive list of
community services.
“The internet and its ability to crush geography provides the
optimal environment for delivering expert information,” said Mark
Stuart CEO of CollectingChannel.com. “An appraisal is not just a
value, but provides vital historical information that enhances the
collecting experience.”
CollectingChannel.com, recent winner of 11 Internet Collectibles
Awards, (http://www.collectiblenet.com/)
is building on its best of breed tradition in providing quality
information and support to the world of collecting. Ask The
Appraiser™ offers CollectingChannel.com community members the
opportunity to find out how much their cherished collectibles are
worth, in a secure and professionally regulated environment.
“The appraisal community is undergoing tremendous changes right
now,” said David Maloney Chief Appraisal Officer of
CollectingChannel.com. “We are committed to leading that change, and
ensuring that the public is served in the most professional manner
possible by the online appraiser.”
The user must fill out a brief questionnaire filling in such
detail as: date of manufacture, composition, dimensions, maker’s
mark, condition, and history of the item. In addition, the system
allows users to upload as many as 5 jpeg or gif pictures of the item
to be appraised. The completed questionnaire is then routed to a
member of the appraisal team to begin the evaluation process.
Appraisal reports are returned to the user via an email, which also
contains a link to an area on the site where the report can be
viewed online.
All appraisal team members involved in Ask the Appraiser™ have
agreed to follow the code of ethics and report writing standards of
the Association of Online Appraisers (AOA, http://www.aoaonline.org/). The
recently formed non-profit organization acts as an industry
watchdog, alerting members to emerging issues concerning online
appraisal practices, promoting interchange between the public and
members, and establishing a codified set of standards to be used in
all online appraisals.
