Riley, Ganse, Peuler Get Nod
Running unopposed, Art Riley recieved the Capital District's unanimous acclamation as Governor 2007-2008 during the Capital District Convention which was recently held in Rockville, MD. Also unopposed, Tom Ganse received the District's unanimous acclamation as Governor Elect 2007-2008. None of the three candidates (Dick Feeser, Charlie Adams, Jerry Peuler) who were vying for Capital District's Endorsement for the position of Kiwanis International Trustee received a majority vote on the first ballot, necessitating a run-off between Adams and Peuler. On the second ballot, Peuler won the endorsement.

Light the Night Walk
by Glynnis Schmidt

On September 15, 2007, I will be participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual Light the Night Walk. This event raises funds which help accelerate cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and brings hope to patients and families who are on the front lines of the battle against these diseases. Every fall teams of friends, families and co-workers gather in this nationwide evening Walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.

As you may remember, I participated in this event last year along with some of my fellow club members from St. Mary's County. We walked in honor of PG John Tyner II, who at the time was undergoing treatment for myeloma. I am pleased to share that John is in remission, and a myeloma survivor! This year I will again be participating in honor of John.

I am writing to ask for your support. I have set a goal to raise $1000. This money will go to the Society for research, patient services, advocacy and education! No donation is too GREAT or SMALL...every bit helps! Last year I was overwhelmed by an outpouring of generous donations from friends of John throughout the District. Clubs and individuals responded with support, as well as warm notes of encouragement for John. I hope that those who supported me last year will do so again, and those who didn't will consider making a donation this year.

Please use the link below to visit my fundraising website where you can donate online quickly and securely. Or if you'd like to mail a check, that's fine too. Please make it payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and mail it by September 1st.

You can learn more or make a donation by visiting my online fundraising website: http://www.active.com/donate/ltnBaltim/2186_bwsgesyahoocom.

You can mail checks to my home at: 23146 Esperanza Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20653.

Warmest Regards,
