Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Presents Police Officer Recognition Award
by Rosemary Cummings

Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis rececntly honored Corporal Nicole Oldham. Cpl. Oldham began her career with the Delaware State Police (DSP) in July of 2002. After graduating from the Academy and completing the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, she was assigned to Uniform Patrol at Troop 7. She is a consistent top producer at Troop 7 in traffic arrests, DUI arrests, and criminal work. Trooper Oldham is also a Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician and transferred to the Sussex County Crash Reconstruction Unit in 2007. Her new assignment requires she undertake the specialized training necessary for the reconstruction of motor vehicle collisions. In this new role, she responds to and investigates serious and fatal crashes all over Sussex County.

In addition to her achievements while on patrol, Trooper Oldham often volunteers for special assignments, particularly when they involve and benefit youth in Sussex County. Last fall when asked to revive the Explorers Post at Troop 7, Trooper Oldham eagerly accepted the challenge, and began to learn everything about the program. At Cape Henlopen High School, she actively recruited students for the program. As a result, she has enlisted six "regulars" who consistently show interest in the program and its goals. During the school year, the group meets monthly at the Scout House in Rehoboth and at Troop 7 where they receive instruction in a variety of topics relating to law enforcement.

The time Trooper Oldham spends with the Explorers Post is totally volunteer time, and as a Program Leader, this often takes time from her husband Jeff and their daughter Natalie. She does so because she believes in the program and in the students the program benefits.

For her dedication to the Delaware State Police and the Youth Explorers program, the Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club recognized Corporal Nicole Oldham as the Kiwanis Police Officer of the Quarter. Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club made a donation to the Camp Barnes Foundation in honor of Cpl Oldham. Her supervisor, Lt. Roger Willey is a Kiwanian. Pictured are club President George Blacklock, Cpl. Nicole Oldham DSP, and Lt. Willey, DSP.
