Riley, Ganse, Peuler Get Nod
Running unopposed, Art Riley recieved the Capital District's unanimous acclamation as Governor 2007-2008 during the Capital District Convention which was recently held in Rockville, MD. Also unopposed, Tom Ganse received the District's unanimous acclamation as Governor Elect 2007-2008. None of the three candidates (Dick Feeser, Charlie Adams, Jerry Peuler) who were vying for Capital District's Endorsement for the position of Kiwanis International Trustee received a majority vote on the first ballot, necessitating a run-off between Adams and Peuler. On the second ballot, Peuler won the endorsement.

Fireworks Parking
by Rosemary Cummings

After 10 years, Rehoboth Beach changed their Fourth of July and Fireworks celebration to the actual holiday, rather than the Sunday before the holiday. Two Kiwanis teams worked the project with the early morning Rehoboth Beach Kiwanians starting their logistics efforts at 9:30 AM to prepare Lingo field to park cars for buses to take residents and tourists into Rehoboth Beach. The early team, Jim and Joan Horn, Alin Buckley, and George Blacklock hung signs in strategic places, and placed orange cones to mark off the parking spaces. At 4:30 PM, the next team of Kiwanians arrived including Al Gardenhour who supervised loading buses for the ride to town. Jim Kunkle, Ken Drerup, and Alicia Falzon, along with Don Stein and Rosemary Cummings greeted parkers, took fees, gave tickets, and directed the cars to the parkers, Jack Eliason, teens Lee Cummings, John Cummings, and Virginia Falzon, Youth Explorer Chris Davidson and SP Intern Eric Swanson. At 5 PM, the cars started to roll in, and unload. This year Kiwanis parked 437 cars, a decrease from previous years. The uncertain weather and change to a weekday were both factors influencing this year's poor showing. However, the Kiwanis teams were stronger than ever, as they parked cars in record time and raised over $2000 to support the Service Leadership Programs the Club supports.
