Key Leader Program Underway
As I write this article for the Builder, the Capital District is about to hold its very first Key Leader Weekend. All statistics point to it being one of the most successful initial weekends ever held. With only a few days left to register, 35 students are already on board. Included in that number are five Key Club officers who have stepped up to the plate and volunteered to serve as the very first Student Facilitators. They are Anne Elder from Virginia Beach, Terrance Clark of Largo, Carolyn McCauley from Christ Church School, Emily Engberg and Hyo bin Sung both from The Salisbury School in Maryland. These students will cover the leadership curriculum at the same time they will be practicing great leadership skills as they each head up break-out neighborhoods. more

Happy New Year or is it Happy Kiwanis New Year?
by Rosemary Cummings, Chair, CPR-M Committee

At the start of the New Year in January, many people make resolutions to get fit, stop smoking, lose weight, take classes, or read books. However, by March, those resolutions seem to go by the wayside. This Kiwanis New Year, take the challenge to make these five resolutions your resolutions, the entire year. First, attend more meetings and bring prospective members. If you go to a meeting once a month, then twice monthly would increase your attendance 100% and grow your club as well. Second, attend Inter-Club meetings to meet new friends and exchange ideas to improve your Kiwanis clubs. Third, mark your calendar to attend the Regional Mid-Winter Conference - No, this is not a meeting just for Officers and Key Club members, - IT IS an opportunity for all Kiwanians to learn the new and great things evolving throughout Kiwanis. Four, plan to attend your District Convention and International Convention - this year DCON is in Richmond in August and International is in Orlando in late June. Fifth, can you volunteer at least 4 hours a month in service, fundraising, or club administration, a total of 48 hours? After all, our Key Club members must commit to 50 hours and our youngest K-Kids commit to 25 hours annually in service to school or community. Can you commit to these resolutions - how will the report card read for you next September? More and stronger Clubs, more Service programs, more funds raised, more fun and exciting meetings, this is our challenge, will you join Capital District in making this another banner year as we approach the 8500 Kiwanis member mark?
