Abingdon,
VA, Kiwanis Club Celebrates 65th Year of Community Service & Leadership
by Immed. Past Gov. Bob Cressy
| From
the new ideas of the new Kiwanis Club of The Dulles
Area, to Kiwanis 'Classic' of the heritage and legacy
of the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon in the Southwest
Virginia Region, the Capital District is rich in
the new ideas and the more traditional ways to form
a club and have it become successful. The Abingdon
Kiwanis Club was founded in 1942 in the early years
of World War II at a time when our enemies were at
their most powerful and much looked bleak.
With great confidence in the future of our country and the world, even with huge personal sacrifices and risks, key members of the community of Abingdon formed a club to help their community and show faith in the future. These were the people of what we now call the greatest generation, millions of whom served in our armed forces and those who supported the troops from home. Yet community leaders took the lead in helping their community and those in need. We can seize that kind of an opportunity as well today. Let's do it! |
