Key Leader Program Underway
As I write this article for the Builder, the Capital District is about to hold its very first Key Leader Weekend. All statistics point to it being one of the most successful initial weekends ever held. With only a few days left to register, 35 students are already on board. Included in that number are five Key Club officers who have stepped up to the plate and volunteered to serve as the very first Student Facilitators. They are Anne Elder from Virginia Beach, Terrance Clark of Largo, Carolyn McCauley from Christ Church School, Emily Engberg and Hyo bin Sung both from The Salisbury School in Maryland. These students will cover the leadership curriculum at the same time they will be practicing great leadership skills as they each head up break-out neighborhoods. more

Parkland Magnet Middle School for Aerospace Technology Builders Club
by Betty Gardiner

The Parkland Magnet Middle School for Aerospace Technology Builders Club, sponsored by the Wheaton-Silver Spring Kiwanis Club and the Wheaton High School Key Club, is back home in their newly renovated State Of The Art School and has gotten off to a smooth start marketing the Builders Club and recruiting new members. The Parkland Magnet Middle School Builders Club hosted an activities table at back to school night on September 27, 2007. The Builders Club membership chairman, Builders Club members, Faculty Advisors and Kiwanis Sponsors were present to meet and greet the parents and students, hand out information about the Builders Club, answer questions, recruit new members, discuss the Builders Club objects, motto and vision, review past year's service projects and programs and of course enjoy refreshments. The Builders Club activity table was a big success with the Parents and many students committed to attend the first meeting and join the club. The Builders Club first meeting is October 4th and registration for new members will begin. Builders Club flyers continue to be handed out, morning and afternoon announcements are being made, posters are hung throughout the school, a Builders Club information display is featured in the schools club/activity showcase and several teachers have discussed and reviewed the Builders Club with their classes. We are looking forward to a great Builders Club and year. All due to the outstanding work and planning of the Kiwanis Club of Wheaton-Silver Spring's Chairperson, Karla Daly.
