OP House Address Signs Promote Safety Says Chief Massey
by David Landis
Ocean Pines Police Chief, Dave Massey, was the guest
speaker at the Kiwanis
Club of Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean City weekly meeting.
He spoke about
safety and crime in the Pines. Part of his talk focused
on the Kiwanis Club's
House Address Sign program for which he had high praise.
Pictured are
Kiwanis President, Ed Schaefer; Chief Massey; and Aris
Spengos, who is the
Kiwanis Chairman for the program; holding the wooden
brown and orange
ddress sign which costs $15 and can be repainted when
needed for only $8.
Both the OPPD and the OPVFD encourage homeowners to
purchase the OP
officially approved signs. Massey urged Kiwanis to
continue to promote, sell,
and do maintenance on the house address signs. Why?
Because these signs
help both the Police Department and Fire Department
find houses when
responding to emergencies, improving your safety. Most
of the Pines has no
street lights, so when it's dark, it's often difficult
to see house address numbers
on houses set back from the street. Another community service
by the local Kiwanis Club in addition to it's goal
of "Serving
the Children of the World".
(To order a new sign or to have an existing sign repainted,
please stop by
the OP Administration Offices and fill out a form or
