by Jennifer Dugent, Chair, Capital District Community Service Committee
In order for Kiwanians to serve and strengthen local communities, we must get out there and get our hands dirty! Hands-on service projects are important because they directly help those in need, and also because they give us the opportunity be seen to the outside world. A problem with Kiwanis is that we do so many great things, yet nobody knows about it. For some clubs, it is hard to find hands-on service projects in their community.
A goal of the District Community Service Committee is to develop, by the end of the Kiwanis year, a Community Service Resource Guide for the Capital District. This guide will be available to clubs online and in print. Clubs will be able to search, by division, for community service opportunities in their area.
In order to make this guide a reality, the committee needs your help! Please send information about all of the projects your club already does (including project name, description, location, and contact information), plus community assessment results that your club has tabulated, to your Lieutenant Governor or Community Service Committee Regional Representative as soon as possible. With this information, the committee can research effective projects for your club and community.
If there are any questions about the District Community Service Resource Guide, please e-mail Community Service Chair, Jennifer Dugent, at jdugent@gmail.com.
