October was a busy month when Kiwanis K-Kids Readers and Quilters inducted new members, Delaney Sites, Kelsey Murray, and Alexis Trate. Treasurer Maddie Sturla reported the members collected $67.25 for the Light the Night Walk. For their school service project, the girls selected a garden plot behind Lord Baltimore School to maintain, and they will plant crocus and daffodil bulbs. After Mrs. Fradel explained safety features and how to operate the sewing machines, the girls cut, sewed, and ironed squares for their first quilt. While waiting to use the sewing machines, the girls practice in small groups reading books about quilting for the next school service project, Reading to Kindergarten classes. The girls discussed plans to make starfish ornaments for the tree at Parade of Trees and to collect for UNICEF on Halloween.
