Kiwanis International President Dave Curry (right) and First Lady Eva Curry will
be visiting the Capital District in late January 2008. During
this special time our district will be hosting a number of
events for the First Family of Kiwanis. On Saturday evening,
January 26, 2008 Governor Art and First Lady Vickie will
host a reception from 6-7 pm (with cash bar) followed by
dinner at the Comfort Inn Conference Center, 4500 Crain Hwy,
Bowie, Maryland 20716.

As I visit clubs and divisional meetings I even mentioned growth as a priority for the District. We have a growth team, a growth committee and the Lt. Governor is always talking about growth at divisional meetings. So what is growth? Is growth something every other club should accomplish? Preparing
for Greatness Perhaps you heard Kiwanis International CEO Rob Parker speak of moving Kiwanis from good to great, or maybe you read it in a Kiwanis publication. Perhaps you heard one of our Capital District leaders paraphrase it during some presentation. 3rd Annual Walk to D-Feet ALS is a Big Success The Kiwanis Club of Greater OP/OC, led by Kiwanis members Ken McLaughlin and his wife Anita and John Hannigan, among many other members, was instrumental in getting the Walk to D-Feet ALS on the Maryland Eastern Shore started. It was driven by the fact that fellow Kiwanian, Carter Nobel, a step-up volunteer, a leader, and a do-it-all member, was diagnosed with the disease. more

Foundation Check Presented to the Children's Pediatric Trauma Center Dr. Clinton Cavett was recently presented with a check in the amount of $3,150 from Div. 2 Past Lt. Gov. Lloyd Enoch. The check comes from the Capital District Foundation which raises funds through annual Ducky Derby and the Caring Corner held at the annual Capital District Conference. The funds will be used to purchase a "Transport Isolette" similar to the one shown at the left by Dr. Cavett. The device is used to move infants for treatment within the hospital and costs over $7,000. more |

Kiwanis Club of LaPlata Completes Mural The Kiwanis of LaPlata Community Service Committee recently completed a wall mural for Health Partners, a medical facility for uninsured, low income residents in Waldorf, Maryland. Our Kiwanis Under The Sea mural is in their new section which will be for their dental clinic soon to be opened. The children will be too busy looking at all the fish and the treasure chest to stress out over being at the dentist! Our designers and painters were: Betty Lindsay, Judi Gorney, Jim Gorney, Donna Avery, Linda Parong, Barbara Sellner and prospective members, Michelle and Curtis Taylor.
