Leesburg Kiwanis Hosts 50th Annual Halloween Parade
by Bob Wright

On a beautiful fall evening more than 100 groups of all sizes put the finishing touches on floats and vehicles at Ida Lee Park as the Leesburg Kiwanis hosted it's 50th Annual Halloween Parade. Beginning at 6 P.M. they made the mile long trip down King Street to the cheers and applause of thousands of spectators, many in costume. Parade participants distributed candy and snacks to waiting children of all ages as they moved slowly down the street. There were fire trucks, police vehicles, motorcycles, antique cars, and floats of all sizes, people in costume, horses, mules, dogs, llamas and high school bands.

Purcellville's Marine Corps League detachment provided the color guard, and they were followed by the Leesburg VFW Post, who along with many other military men and women in uniform both past and present were honored and thanked by the citizens of Loudoun County. Parade participants and spectators donated hundreds of pounds of food and to Interfaith Relief's pantry just in time for the holidays.

Best Float went the the Central Loudoun Youth Football League.
The well-deserved Most Creative Float this year went to the Town of Leesburg Utilities.
Best Interpretation of the Halloween Theme went to Loudoun Motor Sports.
Cub Scouts had a float, too.
