In
recognition of her outstanding service as Lt.
Governor of the Capital District, the Division
17 Clubs presented Betty Gardiner with the
Hixson Award. Under her leadership, the division
raised more than $20,000 for the Carol Jean
Cancer Foundation/Camp Friendship, Relay for
Life, and the Treatment and Learning Centers.
She, along with husband Bernie, Past Distinguished
Lt. Gov, was the guiding force in the development
and Charter of the new Potomac Club. She also
developed the first Annual Family K Day service
project in the Division. Her many contributions
to Kiwanis made her a worthy recipient of this
prestigious award.

Kiwanis International President Dave Curry (right) and First Lady Eva Curry will
be visiting the Capital District in late January 2008. During
this special time our district will be hosting a number of
events for the First Family of Kiwanis. On Saturday evening,
January 26, 2008 Governor Art and First Lady Vickie will
host a reception from 6-7 pm (with cash bar) followed by
dinner at the Comfort Inn Conference Center, 4500 Crain Hwy,
Bowie, Maryland 20716.
