Kiwanis International President's Visit

Kiwanis International President Dave Curry (right) and First Lady Eva Curry will be visiting the Capital District in late January 2008. During this special time our district will be hosting a number of events for the First Family of Kiwanis. On Saturday evening, January 26, 2008 Governor Art and First Lady Vickie will host a reception from 6-7 pm (with cash bar) followed by dinner at the Comfort Inn Conference Center, 4500 Crain Hwy, Bowie, Maryland 20716. more

1st Key Leader Weekend a Success!

Thirty-nine High School students from around the Capital District came to Camp Letts near Annapolis on Friday afternoon Oct. 5th. Thirty-nine trained, energized, and enthusiastic student leaders left at noon two days later. The very first Key Leader Weekend in the Capital District, was, by all indications, a rousing success. more

Kiwanis One Club Reporting System Update
by Ellis H. Stroup, District Secretary-Treasurer

Most all of you are familiar with the fact that we moved to the Kiwanis One Reporting System for the Monthly Club Reports October 1, 2006. All of the clubs in the District made this transition and it has worked extremely well for all concerned. This was the first step in moving towards a centralized system that would link the field production directly to the Kiwanis International files. There has been continuing developmental progress with the system which makes it plausible for us to now make another step in this direction.

Beginning with the October 2007 Reports we will begin to use the Kiwanis One System for the compilation of the Club Reports. Club Report summaries will be available showing only the statistical portion of the report. Membership head counts will be drawn from the Kiwanis International files and will be in a separate report. This will eliminate the two separate membership counts we now have with the two systems. The Interclub report, the Distinguished Tracking Report, the Club Election Report, the Club Meeting Location Report and the Annual Report will continue to be available. Naturally, additional information, input to the system and further development will continue that will further enhance the benefits to the users as well as Kiwanis International. Since the membership category is going to be removed from the Official Monthly Club Report, it behooves the Secretaries to be expedient in forwarding New Member Ads and Deletes as they occur so that the club records on file at Kiwanis International reflect the true club membership.

Each of you will have the ability to access these system outputs. I think all of us are aware of the fact that anything new or a change in the way we do things always brings up a few small problems and a new way of thinking. This always tests our patience a bit but when it is looked at from an overall standpoint it is worth it all. When we encounter problems we need to let this office or Scott Smith know about them so they may be corrected. Each of you can do much to make this change another smooth move.

Keep in mind that the Monthly Grading Plan and the Statistical Report that has been done in this office and posted on the District web site will be discontinued at that time. Everything we now see will be available but in a different format that may be accessed by each club secretary and downloaded as required.
