Sacramento
Neighborhood Center's SNC TeenSpace Skating Trip Was
A Hit Courtesy of the Mount Vernon Club!
by Sally B. Waller, SNC Coordinator
On Saturday April 12,
2008 Coordinator Sally B. Waller & her husband Rodney O. Waller transported 19 Teens to Manassas to visit Skate
N' Fun Zone. The Teens, who were all members of our SNC TeenSpace youth group had a fantastic time!
Thankfully, community resident and SNC volunteer, Pastor Spence was able to arrange for SNC to use her church van. Coordinator and her husband picked it up early Saturday morning in Arlington, Virginia. Originally only about 12 teens confirmed they would be able to attend, however, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night when Coordinator arrived at SNC with the van, she had 19 very eager children waiting for her with permission slips! Good thing we had an additional truck to transport extra passengers safely to the event.
Once we arrived at our destination teens being teens wanted to pose for a million pictures. We were later joined by SNC volunteer, Latrice Watson, who assisted with keeping the teens and activities organized. After photos, teens put on their skates and had a great time as the DJ guided them through contests and great dance music. The children also enjoyed laser tag and an all you can eat pizza and soda buffet. The entire trip was courtesy of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club.
Some teens learned to skate that night. On two occasions a few of the more advanced teen skaters guided Ms. Sally safely around the skating rank, as she wobbled and clutched for dear life! The evening was filled with laughter. The children agreed that this was one of the best trips yet! The event came to a close around 11 p.m. and the children were transported safely home prior to midnight.
We all appreciate the Kiwanis Club for showing us a great time and are grateful for Pastor Spence for the use of her van that evening. We are looking forward to the next exciting adventure!
Our Teens send a warm and sincere thanks to the members of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club and Pastor Spence for making this all possible.
Thanks also to the parents for entrusting us with your children.
