Lynchburg
Inducts Jim Rufus
by Ken Price
Jim Rufus recently rejoined
the Kiwanis Club of Lynchburg. While many people in
the club remember Jim from his prior time in the club,
others may not be aware of his background.
Jim was born in Georgia but grew up in Colonial Heights, VA. He graduated from VA Tech in 1993 with a BS in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management. Currently Jim is a commercial real estate agent with Sperry Van Ness and has been a real estate investor for the past 14 years.
Jim has been married to Jill for more than 14 years. They have four wonderful boys, Drake (8), Gibson (6), Kellam (5), and Kirkland (4). The family attends Thomas Road Baptist Church and the boys all attend LCA/ELC.
Jim was first introduced to Kiwanis through Key club in high school. He joined as a freshman and was President in his senior year. Jill was also president of the Key club at LCA where she met Craig Cousins. After Jim and Jill settled in Lynchburg, Craig invited them to join the club. Now that the children are all in school Jim wanted to get involved with the club again, to help the community, the club and give some time and talents to the great projects the club works on regularly. Jim also says, "I also enjoy being around like minded individuals that inspire me daily." (Pictured, Jim receives his Kiwanis pin from membership chairman Brad Weaver).
