Suburban
Frederick and Westminster Clubs to Hold Recruitment Drive
at Keys Baseball Game June 14th
by Frank Parker
The Kiwanis Club of Suburban
Frederick together with the Westminster Kiwanis Club
is hosting a special KIWANIS evening at the Frederick
Keys minor league baseball game being played at Harry
Grove stadium (right) in Frederick, MD on June 14, 2008.
The evening is an
integral part of the club's plan for the recruitment
of new members in 2008.
The event will feature a large KIWANIS banner that all attending must pass and will see as they enter the park. There will be a table with a similar banner above it just as people turn to toward the third base side of the stadium. The table will be the place where club members can hand out KIWANIS literature, sell raffle tickets and/or invite people to visit our clubs.
The game will begin with Capital District Governor Art Riley throwing out the first pitch and giving a short statement to the crowd about Kiwanis. Two viewings of Kiwanis photos will take place on the large screen over left center field and two 20-second Kiwanis Public Service Announcements will be broadcast during the game.
The Keys' publicity staff will include this special Kiwanis Night in their media promotions on the web, in mass emails and on internet radio. The evening will conclude with fireworks at the end of the game and hopefully some new members in both clubs. The evening is expected to draw 4,000 to 5,000 fans.

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the
Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year’s theme
is “Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights—not
to be missed—is Friday night’s Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
The
final version of the proposed Strategic Plan for our District
will be presented to the House of Delegates for ratification
at
DCON
2008 in
Richmond,
VA
this
summer.
Once
ratified
by the District delegates, the plan belongs to the District
membership and the District Board will be charged with executing
it.
