Key
Leader Weekend Deadline Set
by Babs Lee
Kiwanis International
is encouraging student applicants for the April 25
- 27, 2008 Capital District Key Leader Weekend to register
on line as soon as possible. There is an absolute deadline
for applying without financial penalty. After April
11th, applications will be accessed a $25 late fee.
KI will strictly adhere to this policy. Applications
will be accepted up until 5 PM on April 23rd, but with
the extra fee attached.
Meanwhile three of the October student participants at Camp Letts have already been approved to serve as student facilitators for Arlington Echo. They are Helen Maloney from Frederick, MD, Taylor Binnix from Severna Park, MD and Pat Maher from Reistertown, MD. Sami Noble from Virginia Beach is also in the process of applying. Now we need for Kiwanis Clubs throughout the District to begin registering their sponsored young people for Arlington Echo.
Kiwanis responsibilities are three-fold: identify students in Grades 9 – 12, help them with the registration process, and help finance their attendance. In identifying, the student need not be in Key Club so look to other youth groups in your community. If you have a Builders Club, you can recruit 8th grade members to Arlington Echo as the weekend falls in the latter part of the school year. To register, the student needs a nominator who can be a Kiwanian, parent, or school personnel. They also need your club as their sponsor. Registration is done totally on line at www.key-leader.org. The cost is $175 unless the student is in Key Club or Builders Club. These members will automatically receive a $25 scholarship from Kiwanis International Foundation. In distant areas it would be nice to also help fund or provide transportation to Millersville.
Fifteen clubs did an awesome job of sending at least two young people to the First Key Leader Weekend. Lets double that effort and make the Second Weekend even more spectacular. We need every Kiwanis Club to get busy and give the young people in your community the opportunity to attend what is becoming recognized world-wide as a premier service leadership program.
Remember that the future of this world is determined by the younger generations. Do your share to empower the leaders of that future world.

By
the time you read this, the proposed Strategic Plan has
been reviewed in two increments by the District Long
Range Planning Committee,
those incremental results have been endorsed by the
District Board, and four of the eight District Regions
have had
the opportunity to attend presentations on "VISION: 20/15", to include the Strategic Plan. Between now and mid-April, all remaining Regions
will share in that opportunity. From there, all input
from all sources will be considered before the Board
endorses a final version of the Plan. That final version
will be presented to the House of Delegates for ratification
in Richmond this Summer. Once ratified by the delegates,
the plan belongs to the District membership and the
District Board will be charged with executing it.
