School Builders Club Activities

The Westminster School Builders Club, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Annandale recently celebrated another outstanding year of service to the community. Westminster is a private school that follows the Westminster curriculum. The school believes in community service and all 59 of the 7th and 8th graders are members of the Builders Club. The faculty advisor is Dennis Miller, the school's athletic director.
Each year the Club has a Thank You luncheon for their parents who enabled them to:
- every Wednesday tutor at Timber Lane elementary school heavily impacted by recent immigrant children as well as collected over 1,000 children's books and more than 2,000 items off school supplies for the school.
- go bowling or play bingo monthly with senior citizens at a retirement home, and at went Christmas caroling at the home.
- work over 520 hours on their VDOT Adopt a Street.
- sell 400 White House ornaments so that they could adopt 24 individuals during the holidays; and donate $500 worth of Giant food certificates and conduct a clothing drive that resulted in 40 large boxes of clothing for area needy families.
- make over 1,500 sandwiches for Martha's Table and collected, wrapped, and donated 200 gifts for the Children's Hospital Cancer Center's Hope Chest.
- Raised and donated over $2,900 for the Mr. Turkey Drive.
- Sponsored a "Thanksgiving-in-May" Food Drive to replenish the local food pantry.
The president of the Westminster Builders Club this year was Leila Safavi. Leila was the opening speaker at the Division 20 Sponsored Youth night in November and also spoke at the CKI District Convention in February.




















The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the
Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme
is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
