Colonial
Capital Club Helps Prepare Students for Testing
by Gil Curl
The Colonial Capital Kiwanis
Club was asked by several teachers in one of the local
middle schools to help prepare the 6th graders for
the upcoming Standards of Learning tests in history
and math. The response was immediate, with volunteers
working directly with small groups of students after
school for the last two months. In recognition of their
efforts, the club received the Superintendent's Starfish
award at a recent School Board meeting. The real payoff
of course was the chance to work with the kids and
some of us even learned a little "New Math" in the process. Pictured are several of the club volunteers and the teachers
being recognized by the Superintendent of the Williamsburg
- James City County Schools.

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the
Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme
is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
