Kiwanis Club Donates Picnic Tables To Rehoboth Elementary
School
by Rosemary Cummings
When K-Kids Advisor, Mary
Matthes, was recently inducted as a Rehoboth Kiwanian,
fellow members asked her, what can the Club do to benefit
the Rehoboth Elementary school? She immediately mentioned
the need for new picnic tables to replace the splintered
and broken tables facing Silver Lake. In the fall and
spring, she said, the tables serve as an outside environmental
learning classroom. Over the years, however, the tables
fell into disrepair. Kiwanians Roger Willey and Jim
Kunkle went to work and found students from the Kent
County Alternative Learning Program make sturdy rugged
tables, which met the school's need. Roger and Jim
arranged to pick up the four new tables at the Dover
school and transported them to the Rehoboth School.
What a surprise for Ms. Matthes' third grade class
when they went outside to see the new tables. The K-Kids
sitting in the front row were so proud their Club was
responsible for this school service. Jim Kunkle said,
"This was the case of kids helping kids, with Kiwanis
as the intermediary". When told Kiwanis gave the tables to the school, one boy said, oh,
I know Kiwanis; I see their sign at my little League
field in West Rehoboth. Kiwanis is truly a Global Organization
of Volunteers Dedicated to Changing the World, One
Child, and One Community At A Time.

of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme
is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
