Reisterstown
Club Shreds to Raise Funds
by Steve Jenkins
The Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown
recently held its 1st Paper Shredding Event as a way
to get the name of Kiwanis out in the public. One of
our members thought about having a Paper Shredding
Event for the community to shred their documents. This
was a huge success. The people that came wanted to
know when we were going to do this again. We plan to
make this an annual event. We held this event in a
shopping center in Reisterstown in front of a Office
Depot. We had a line of people waiting to have their
documents shredded and they were able to watch them
as they were putting them in the shredder. The cost
of the machine was $800 and we gave the two workers
$20 each. We collected in donations $1,200. So it actually
paid for itself and more. We thought we would get enough
donations to pay for at least half of it. It turned
out a lot better than we thought.

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the
Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme
is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
