New Builder's Club in Charles County
by Judy Gorney

There's a new Builder's Club in Charles County, Maryland! Milton Somers Middle School has finally met all the requirements to have their own Builder's Club thanks to all the hard work of many people including Gordon Mann, member of the Kiwanis Club of LaPlata; Don Kabala, Milton Somers Builder's Club school advisor; Stephanie Wesolowski, Principal; Jerome Petty, Vice Principal; Charlotte Goldsmith, instructional assistant and Lynn Weinberger, parent volunteer. On April 15, 2008, the Kiwanis Club of LaPlata sponsored and the students hosted their Charter Night Celebration at the school where over 85 people were in attendance. There was a lovely dinner followed by the swearing in of Officers and Directors by the Kiwanis Capital District-Governor-elect, Tom Ganse.

Kiwanis Club of LaPlata members, Jim and Judi Gorney, donated a door prize of two tickets to an upcoming game to the new Nationals stadium! The lucky winner was the Builder's Club new president, Christine Newman. Congratualtions on winning the door prize.

As you can see from the group picture, there were many Builder's Club members in attendance along with several members from the LaPlata Club. Builder's Club members are new young Kiwanians who are eager and ready to get to work. As Kiwanians, we welcome all of you and we know you will do a great job!

Shown left, the newly elected Builder's Club Officers are, from left to right, Taylor Croson-Secretary, Mary Gleason-Treasurer, Samantha Enlow-Vice President, and Christina Newman, President. Shown right the new Builder's Club proudly show off their Kiwanis banner during their official Charter Night Celebration held April 15th at Milton Somers Middle School.
