Virginia
Beach Clubs Merge
by Nancy Pindur
We are now officially the Town Center Kiwanis of Virginia Beach! It took a while but after going through the assimilation of members from the now defunct Suburban Club of Virginia Beach and filing papers for our name change it is official. Everything remains the same in terms of our enthusiasm for fund raising and helping the children.
This month we presented two $2000 scholarships to students at our sponsored Key Club High Schools.
Our yearly Golf Tournament fund raiser, headed by one of our newer members, Tom Balen of Heritage Bank, was a great success. Tom was able to stir up lots of prizes for various categories of Golf expertise so that more than half of all the 88 golfers received prizes. In spite of a very brief and unexpected downpour, the event was a huge success and all involved enjoyed raising money for a good cause.
We continue to have our monthly socials at restaurants in our town center area which have supported us in our fund raising endeavors over the year. This month we met at Keagans for cocktails and dinner. Next month we willbeat the Cheesecake Factory. It is our way of showing our support for them as well.
We are looking forward to our Summer Social for our families. The time and place is still being negotiated.

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the
Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme
is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
