Stanley Georges, a long time member of the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club Club, passed away on May 9, 2008, of heart failure following hip surgery. Stanley was drafted in the Army during World War II. After WWII, he graduated from Officer Candidate School. As a new lieutenant, Stan served in the Korean War. He retired from the Army, as a Major, in 1964. During this time, he returned to school and earned a Master Degree in Political Science at the University of Maryland. For the next twenty years or so, he continued to work at Fort Belvoir as a civilian.
The Club members that attended his funeral were surprised to learn that Stan, along with a Colonel Weston, led the development of a Kiwanis Club at Fredericksburg. Stanley, then moved to Woodbridge and joined the Woodbridge Club in 1971. He served a Club President during 1976 - 1977 and as Lt. Governor of Division 10 during 1978-79. Stan's most remarkable achievement in the Woodbridge Club was the development of Key Clubs in the local high schools. For his outstanding service to our Club, Stan was given a Distinguished Service Award. It was well deserved!! He will be missed by all.
