SDHA
Key Club Hosts Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean City Club
by D.J. Landis
The
Stephen Decatur High School Key Club, the high school
level club of Kiwanis International, hosted it's sponsoring
club, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean
City at the annual breakfast at SDHS.
Key Club members reported on their projects for the
school year 2007 - 2008. Projects included a successful
Annual Blood Drive, participation in the annual ALS
Walk held each fall in Ocean Pines in support of
finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease, and working
at the Kiwanis Club events such as the annual Italian
Dinner and the three annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfasts,
to name a few.
Pictured are some of the Key Club officers and members
who attended the breakfast at the high school along
with SDHS principal, Mr. Taylor, SDHS Key Club advisor,
Mrs. Hevel, and local Kiwanis Club immediate past
president, Al Kastner. Members of the Worcester County
School Board and two of the Worcester County Commissioners,
namely, Judy Boggs and Linda Busick, also attended.
Al Kastner addressed the gathering on behalf of the
Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines/ Ocean City and
thanked the Key Club of their unending support of
the Kiwanis Club and service to the community.
School will soon be out for the summer, so Kastner
seized the opportunity to solicit Key Club members
participation in a new summer project whereby the
Kiwanis Club will sell hotdogs and drinks at the
weekly summer 2008 Thursday night free "Concerts
in the Park" in Ocean Pines at Whitehorse Park starting June 19th. All proceeds go to the
Kiwanis Scholarship Fund which annually provides
scholarships for deserving senior students to further
their educations after high school. So, this summer,
you can not only listen to great entertainment, but
also grab a tasty treat while helping to raise funds
for scholarships.

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the
Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme
is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
