Ocean Pines/Ocean City Club Celebrates Charter with Annual Luncheon
by D.L.Landis

Every year in May the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean City celebrates its beginning with a Charter Luncheon. The widows of past Kiwanis members are always invited to attend. Pictured left is club President, Ed Schaefer, in the middle of the eleven widows who attended.

Tragically, the club lost one of its most valued members, Ken McLaughlin of Ocean Pines, who, along with his wife Anita, spearheaded the formation of the now Annual Walk to D'Feet ALS held every fall and also served as the Programs Chairman for the club. Pictured right are Ken's son Andrew, a fellow Kiwanian, and Ken's wife, Anita, accepting a memorial picture signed by all of his fellow Kiwanians from John Laviola while Club President, Ed Schaefer, observes on the far left. This year the Annual ALS Walk will honor Ken on Saturday October 4th in Ocean Pines. Lots of walkers are expected. Stay tuned for details.

Graham "Jack" Caldwell who took over Ken's position as Programs Chairman, emceed the celebration which included Guest Speaker, "Bulldog", local radio personality and DJ for FM 98.1, Seacrets Radio, for the 6-10 AM segment. It was a memorable Charter Celebration for the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean City, Maryland.
