Since 1987 Cecil County has held a Most Beautiful Person contest. The purpose of the event is to honor dedicated volunteers. Each county in Maryland and Baltimore City holds a similar contest each year. Both individuals and couples can be nominated. Any citizen can nominate a deserving person who volunteers their time.
A selection committee in each county reviews the nominations and selects a winner. The Committee is composed of past winners of the Cecil County Award. They select someone who they believe is trying to help the most people in Cecil County, in as many different areas of their county as possible. The winners from each county then attend the state wide Maryland You Are Beautiful celebration in Annapolis.
In its 20 year history here in Cecil County, three (3) of the
winners have been
members of the Kiwanis Club of Elkton. The honorees have been Robert Schick
in
2001, Dale Collins in 2003 and Ford Hamilton in 2005. (Pictured are
Ford Hamilton (L) and Dale Collins (R)). Each winner has
demonstrated outstanding dedication to improving the lives of
Cecil county
residents
through their countless volunteer hours. Kiwanis is a global organization
of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world on child and one community at a time.
Thus it is not surprising that active Kiwanis members are nominated and selected
as Cecil
County’s Most Beautiful Person. Kiwanis has shown during its 92
year history that it is a valuable source and avenue for someone to serve
his/her
community.
The Kiwanis Club of Elkton, which celebrates 75 years of service
this year, has provided its members the opportunity to serve the community,
create life-long
friendships, build leadership skills and have fun at the same time. The
Club is very proud of all of its members and is extremely happy that these
members
were recognized and honored for their hard work. For more information
