Club Honors Students

Recently the Kiwanis Club of Westminster met at the Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center. Students from Winters Mill and Westminster High Schools were honored for their scholastic and community achievements. Mark Heffner, teacher from Winters Mill introduced Sarah Gibbons of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and Michael Oliver who attends the Science and Technology Academy. Sarah is a senior studing Child Development and is a volunteer. She will study Early Childhood Education at then Carroll Community College. Michael, also a senior, serves on school advisory, a non-graded class in which he is very active. He plans to further his education at York Technical Institute to becaome an architectural drafter. Michael works at Olive Garden in Westminster. Laurie Doolan, English teacher at Westminster High School presented Emily Fisher. Emily, a senior, has served as class president and treasurer in her four years at Westminster. Ms Doolan says Emily has a very creative mind as a writer and speaker. She will attend University of Maryland, College Park, and study Art History. (no photo)
On May 6, 2008, Westminster Kiwanis
met at the Wakefield Golf and Conference Center. Students
from Winters Mills And Westminster High Schools were honored
for being students of the Month. From Winters Mill (starting
far left) Macy Zincon from the English Department. Macy
plays on the school soft balol team and mentors ninth grade
students. She plans to attend Villa Julie College in the
fall majoring in business and finance. Rachael Kubicek,
also from Winters Mill is recognized by the Guidence Department.
Rachel is a peer facilitator, member of the National Honor
Society and plans to attend the University of Maryland
in the fall. Kelly Natale, from Westminster High School,
is recognized by the Guidence Department. Kelly wants to
become a nurse and will attend UMBC in the fall. Sarah
Stroh, Westminster HIgh School, was selected by the media
department. She is also President of the French Club and
plans to pursue a career in Social Work. Elisa Nicomb,
not able to attend was selected by the Adminstrative Department. she has maintained a perfect attendence throughout her school career
and has earned a 4.7 GPA.
On May 20, 2008, the Westminster
Kiwanis Club met at the Wakefield Golf and Conference Center
to present five scholarships to students from the Carroll
County Career and Technology Center. (From left to right)
Phillip Sheppard, from North Carroll High School. Phil
excelled in carpentry. He will attend Salisbury University.
Phillip was awarded the top scholarship of $1000. Holly Lenz, from North Carroll High School, she has chosen
the field of drafting and will attend Radcliff University
to study Interior Design. Holly was awardea a $250 scholarship. Kristina Crumbie-Barrick, from Winters Mill High School.
Kristina is planning a career in Allied Health. She will
attend Villa Julie College to earn a degree in Nursing.
She was awarded a $250 Scholarship. Kevin Ridinger, Francis
Scott Key High School, his field is machine technology.
He's been active with numerous FFA and 4H activies. Kevin
also received a $250 scholarship to use at a college of
his choice. Brian Glenn Haines, Francis Scott Key High
School. Brian will pursue a career in welding and machine
technology. He will use his $250 scholarship at Wyoming
Tech College in Blairsville, PA.

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August
14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at
the Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center,
just
a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart
of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's
theme is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not
to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention.
