The convention was held in the huge and hansome Orlando Convention Center. Flags, music, excellent audio-visuals, along with colorful, noisy, enthusiastic attendees applauded the performance of International President Dave Currie for his crisp management and sense of humor throughout the Convention. more

2008 Capital District Convention Aug 14-17, 2008: A "Prescription for Success"

The 2008 Capital District Convention will be held this year from Thursday, August 14 through Sunday, August 17th in Richmond Virginia at the Downtown Marriot and the Richmond Convention Center, just a few blocks from the State Capitol. Hosted by the Heart of Virginia Region of the Capital District, this year's theme is "Prescription For Success,” and one of the big highlights-not to be missed-is Friday night's Birthday Party at the Marriott to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the District Convention. more

Kiwanis Club of LaPlata Awards $500 Scholarship

The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata awarded a $500 scholarship to Peter J. Cangelosi, a senior at Westlake High School in Waldorf, MD. The scholarship was presented by Club members, John Reith and Donna Avery, at the Westlake High School Senior Awards Ceremony on June 5, 2008. Peter, who is planning to attend the University of Maryland to major in biology, was the captain of Westlake's wrestling team and has been active in Boy Scouts and his Charles County Youth group. The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata hopes to continue to award this scholarship in the future to a deserving high school senior through Charles County Scholarship Fund.
