Division
8 Kiwanians Construct Deck for Heritage Hall
by Jon Rife
Three Division 8 Kiwanis Clubs teamed up to build an outside deck for the residents of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Buchanan County. Last fall members from the Council, McClure River, and Grundy Kiwanis Clubs decided to donate their efforts to build an outside deck after a program was presented by Heritage Hall Administrator Pat Lambert. She mentioned that the grassy section in back was too uneven and unsafe for the residents to use. Kiwanis members met and made plans to help build the deck and raise money to buy lumber. McClure Kiwanis member Perry Moore designed the 40 by 50ft deck, with rails, handicap ramps, and even picnic tables. With the new deck area, the residents of Heritage Hall Nursing Home are now expected to spend lots of time outdoors, to have picnics with their families, and participate in outdoor activities. Jon Rife, of Grundy Kiwanis Club, estimated that 250 volunteer hours were donated and all volunteers agreed that this was a wonderful experience!
