On
December 21st and 22nd area Kiwanis clubs and Libby
Kendrick, USO Director,
kept the USO at the Newport News/Williamsburg airport
open for 48 hours while troops (right) from area
bases traveled home for the holidays. The seven clubs
from
Division 23 - York, Denbigh, Williamsburg, Poquoson,
Colonial Capital, Tabb and Grafton worked together
on this
project, and also work monthly at the airport USO.
Many service
members and their families were provided with food,
drinks, snacks, cookies, a comfortable place to wait
for their flights and computer access. We appreciate
the efforts of all the volunteers
who gave their
time at this busy time of the year to support those
who
support our freedom. The original program at the
Newport News/Williamsburg airport was developed by
the York
Club at the suggestion of Tabb K-Kids sponsor Julie
Sager. York challenges all the other clubs in the
Capital District to develop a program with their local
USO
facilities. Pictured left four Members, John Murphy,
Linda Tyler, Judy and Bob Letchworth, of the Tabb Kiwanis
Club worked the 9PM to 1AM shift.
