Sometimes
as Kiwanians, we may think the work we do goes unnoticed
or does
not make a difference in the communities we serve.
Just after Thanksgiving, Rehoboth Beach Kiwanian,
Ron Paterson heard the local DE radio talk host complain
about the dearth of religious carols in the Christmas
Tree Lighting ceremony. Perhaps to stir up discussion,
the talk host then questioned why the City had not
set up the Creche as in previous years. Before the
recent Main Street beautification, for almost 50
years, the Creche was traditionally at the Horn Pavilion
on
the boardwalk near Rehoboth Avenue. (George and Charles
Horn were charter members of the Rehoboth Club, with
grandson/son Jim and his wife Joan now current members).
Ron (also the Rehoboth Vice Mayor) called in to remind
the commentator setting up the Creche was not a City
function, but a Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club community
service activity. Online, Ron told the listeners
the Crèche would go up the following Saturday, since
the
Kiwanians needed help a non-school day from the Cape Henlopen HS Key Club for the setup. Ron used this great opportunity
to let all the early morning listeners in the DE
Coastal area know about the work of Kiwanis and that
the Christmas
spirit is alive and well throughout the year in this
resort town. Key Clubbers picture upper right are
