Governor-Elect Candidate

In accordance with the Capital District Policy Statements, qualified members who have filed their intention of being a candidate for the office of Governor-elect may have their candidacy announced District wide beginning on the second Friday in January. The Kiwanis club of Reisterstown, Maryland, supported by all of the Kiwanis clubs in Division Twelve, has presented Don L. Dudey as a candidate for the office of Governor-elect of the Capital District for the 2008-2009 Administrative year. - Ellis H. Stroup, District Secretary-Treasurer

Q. For many years, I have heard that becoming a Kiwanis member is by invitation only. I know we are trying to increase Kiwanis’ membership to 1 million members by 2015 and that we are running advertisements promoting Kiwanis. Does this mean we can run advertisements for prospective members?

A. No. Admission into Kiwanis, according to Policies and Procedures of Kiwanis International, is by invitation only. The policies also stipulate that clubs “shall not solicit new members through newspaper ads, general mailing to the public, or other such forms of nonselective advertising.”
