An
enthusiastic and determined construction crew worked
all day on a cold and occasionally rainy Saturday before
Christmas to put together a wheelchair ramp for a family
in Denbigh which had a young child who need to be transported
to doctors and therapy in a wheel chair. Pictured left
are Collette Munn and her granddaughter, Miagae' on
the ramp. Pictured right at the builders (from
l. to r.) lead builder John Lindstrom of 1st
Advantage
Federal
Credit Union, Kiwanians Bill Morrison, Moose Spencer,
Darcy Terry, Jim Russell and Junius Penn; and Paul
Stuppell and Bill Alston, both of Coastal Community
Church. Not pictured are Kiwanians Jeff Frey, who organized
the work effort and the material procurement; Harold
Laurent, who spearheaded the design, building permit
and interface with the family; and Keith Hansen, who
also worked on the construction, and Casey Duplantier
CEO of 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union. The need
was identified through the Kiwanis Children's Council
of Hampton Roads Kids Priority One website. The ramp was completed the week before Christmas, just in time for the excited
family to adorn it with Christmas decorations. This
was a great cooperative effort of the Denbigh Kiwanis
Club, 1st Advantage Credit Union and members of the
Coastal Community Church; and a great Christmas present
for the family.
