One of the major events
of the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon is our annual Christmas
Tree Sale. Each December we sell Christmas Trees, wreaths,
garland, and tree stands to fund our various service
projects and service leadership programs. Every single
member puts in about 12 hours of work by taking shifts
staffing the lot. Members help customers select trees,
load them onto customer's cars, and collecting money.
This year was by far our most successful year ever!
Our final profits were $24,253.11!!! This was a club
record! We sold out of every item in our inventory!
This year we sold over 760 trees which is far more
than we've ever sold in previous years!
While the entire club can enjoy this success, much
of the credit goes to Paul Mehler who served as the
Christmas Tree Fundraiser Chairman. Paul put together
the work schedule, handled all the purchasing, and
was at the lot helping out almost every single day!
This event was also a Kiwanis-Family event! Our Key
Clubs at Mount Vernon HS and South County SS helped
us unload the 760 trees on delievery day. Key Clubbers
from West Potomac HS came and helped work the lot
on busy weekends. Our new Stratford Landing K-Kids
also showed up and sold hand-made holiday ornaments
to raise money for their service fund. We also want
thank the Kiwanis Club of Tysons Corner who interclubbed
with us on Dec 8 and helped work the lot! Several
Division 20 Kiwanians also supported our club by
purchasing trees from the lot.
We are excited about the great service programs these
profits will fund and we're looking forward to next
year's tree sale!
