One Saturday in December,
the members and supporters of the Colonial Capital
Kiwanis Club had the pleasure of spreading a little
holiday cheer as they wrapped up the Toys for Local
Kids project with the toy distribution to parents of
local families. The effort includes the support of
the entire community giving generously to fundraising
projects throughout the year.
In addition to the club member's activities, the success of the project has depended on our High School Key Club partners who have been there for every fundraiser and community support activity undertaken. The Colonial Capital Kiwanis Club sponsors very active Key Clubs at Bruton High School and Williamsburg Christian Academy. It is absolutely delightful to see the way these High School students are developing as leaders and are giving back to the Williamsburg community.
The Toys for Local Kids drive this year supported 245 families, representing 484 children. Nineteen Key Club members and fifty-one Kiwanis members and spouses were on hand to assist shoppers. Over sixteen thousand dollars was spent, much of it collected during the canister collection program supported by Wal-Mart, Belk, Farm Fresh and Kmart at their stores.
