KI Store Hit by Hackers

Almost daily, stories about credit card fraud and large corporate security breaches headline the news. Without question, these crimes are on the rise and criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Kiwanis International recently became victim to such a crime when we learned of an unauthorized intrusion into its Kiwanis Family Store Web site and related database, hosted by a third-party provider. The perpetrator gathered credit card information and shipping addresses by illegally accessing our system through the Internet. more

Mason-Dixon Region Mid-Winter Conference Hosts KI Pres. Dave & Eva Curry

As if a well-organized (thanks, Bill Hand!) conference full of excellent workshops was not enough, the 2008 Mason-Dixon Regional Mid-Winter Conference was honored with the presence of Kiwanis International Pres. Dave Curry and his wife, Eva. Dave even joined Gov. Art Riley and Immed.-Pat Gov. Bob Cressy to promote the June 26-29, 2008 Orlando, FL KI Convention. Childhood Obesity Initiative Committee Report
Dr. Astril Webb

I would like to wish all of our fellow Kiwanian family members a Happy New Year. I am excited to update you on the events that the Childhood Obesity Initiative Committee have been involved in to date in supporting Division One of Capital District Kiwanis fight against childhood obesity. As you all know this is one of the greatest health epidemics facing our nation today and Division One of the Capital District Kiwanis has pledged to make a difference for each child who is affected by childhood obesity in our local communities. Kiwanis clubs have already begun working toward this goal.

Last year we provided an informational booklet giving an overview on childhood obesity. This information is available for use and distribution by all Kiwanis Clubs. Earlier on this year, The Kiwanis Club of Greater Landover gave a formal presentation about childhood obesity and the seriousness of this health epidemic at a PTA meeting at Glenn Dale Elementary for the parents, guardians, teachers, and students. Not only was the presentation informative and the material useful for the attendees, but the presentation was so well received that the parents at Glenn Dale Elementary made a commitment for this year to adopt the Whole Family Approach and make each of their homes a Healthy Home. Several parents expressed their gratitude for the insights and tips that they received about how to make the necessary lifestyle changes for their families. Even the children were very responsive.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Landover would like to challenge all clubs in Division One to get actively involved in the campaign against childhood obesity. We will be willing to visit your individual Club meetings to help you initiate your individual campaigns for this cause and we will be happy to address PTA groups of the elementary schools in your local communities, and Circle K, Key Clubs affiliated with your club.

We can all make a difference for obese children in our communities and as Kiwanians we are and will continue to make positive impact on the lives of our children one child at a time. If you would like us to visit your club, please contact Doris Montgomery at 301-735-2255 with the date, time and location of your meetings and we will plan to be there.

On behalf of the Childhood Obesity Initiative Committee, we wish you all a Happy HEALTHY prosperous year and we look forward to inter-clubbing and working with you more this year.
