KI Store Hit by Hackers

Almost daily, stories about credit card fraud and large corporate security breaches headline the news. Without question, these crimes are on the rise and criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Kiwanis International recently became victim to such a crime when we learned of an unauthorized intrusion into its Kiwanis Family Store Web site and related database, hosted by a third-party provider. The perpetrator gathered credit card information and shipping addresses by illegally accessing our system through the Internet. more

Mason-Dixon Region Mid-Winter Conference Hosts KI Pres. Dave & Eva Curry

As if a well-organized (thanks, Bill Hand!) conference full of excellent workshops was not enough, the 2008 Mason-Dixon Regional Mid-Winter Conference was honored with the presence of Kiwanis International Pres. Dave Curry and his wife, Eva. Dave even joined Gov. Art Riley and Immed.-Pat Gov. Bob Cressy to promote the June 26-29, 2008 Orlando, FL KI Convention. President Dave gives his moral support to the project after hearing Division 17 PLG Jim Leder and Past President Jim Aylor, both of the Bethesda Kiwanis Club addressed the concept, progress and challenge of accomplishing such an important yet huge opportunity. We ask, like Dr. King, what will happen if we do not help? "One CAN make a difference"!

International President of Kiwanis, Dave Curry & Eva Visit the Kiwanis Club of the Dulles Area - Kiwanis Next!
by Immediate Past Governor Bob Cressy

Kiwanis International speaks to two types of Kiwanis clubs now - 'Kiwanis Classic', the kind of traditional clubs most of us belong to, and now 'Kiwanis NEXT' clubs. In our changing world with many different responsibilities both in our work and our family lives, we must think of new ways to meet the needs of both our communities and potential members.

These ideas can take many forms including virtual internet clubs, young professionals clubs Like DC Young Professionals, and the ideas of the Kiwanis Club of the Dulles Area. This new club chartered in September of 2007 at a family picnic at a park in Sterling, VA, near Dulles (hence the name, eh?). Great fun and food, and with all the festivities of Kiwanis in a very relaxed venue. Among the founders were a few CKI veterans and Kiwanians. They decided the best time to meet would be Sunday afternoons at 4:00 PM. They could even bring their children. It's working!

A low-cal, diet cake with all the trimmings for KI President Dave and Eva Curry's visit. It was good.
President Dave congratulates the Kiwanis Club of the Dulles Area on their seizing the opportunity to form a “Kiwanis Next” club, i.e. not the traditional way but to meet the unique needs of the community. DAK is a family oriented club that meets on Sunday afternoons at 4 PM in a nice meeting room in the Calasades Public Library in Sterling Virginia. How's that!
DAK President Heather Talbot and husband Jeff (not shown) bring their daughter Maggie to the meetings. Maggie's interested. In everything, including President Dave. Thanks for coming to see them, Dave and Eva.
Jeff Talbot --- and Maggie --- along with President Dave & Eva, Trustee Brian Bell, in background Division 20 LG Steve Vjas and about 30 people attended the Sunday afternoon meeting at the DAK club.
Left to right, former and always 'first ladies' Nancy Cressy and Dale Kane, District Trustee for NOVA Brian Bell and THE First Lady Eva Curry enjoy the ... cake, and each other.
