| Annual Fall Peanut Days
Fundraiser
The Woodbridge Kiwanis Club conducted its annual Fall Peanut Days fundraiser throughout the eastern part of Prince William County in Virginia. This year, we tried something new, in that the Key Clubs of Forest Park and Gar-Field High Schools, operated their own collection sites at two local supermarkets. And they did very well! They seem to have a youthful mannerism, that readily attracts donors. All the money they collected, will be transferred to their schools and can be used by the Clubs to donate to any charity that they wish. With a few minor exceptions, our Peanut Days fundraising effort is complete. Collectively, to date, the effort netted about $2,964, and counting. Not a big amount, but it will help pay the bills and everyone seemed to enjoy the effort. We have some peanuts left over, which will be handed out to the kids along the route of the Dumfries 33rd Holiday Parade on December 8. We will have an entry in the parade, which will be preceded by a tailgate party for the participants. |

Participates in Gov.'s Official Visit
Governor Art Riley's official visit to Division 10, which was combined combined with the Division 10 Sponsored Youth Night, was held on the night of October 30, at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg. Again, the highlight of the evening, was when the representatives of the Sponsored Youth Clubs were asked to tell about what school and community service projects they had accomplished to date and what they plan to accomplish during the remainder of the school year. Both Gov. Riley and Rick Hurley, Acting President of the University of Mary Washington, said that they were very impressed with the efforts and accomplishments of the Sponsored Youth Clubs. The word "WOW" is very appropriate word to describe their club's initiatives and accomplishments. |

Attends Div. 10 Sponsored Youth Night
The Woodbridge Club was well represented in the event, as our Sponsored Youth Club representatives included: Faculty Advisor Jim Hunniford and three members of the Gar-Field Key Club, three members from the Forest Park Key Club, and Faculty Advisors Sarah Smits and LeAnn Strang from the newly formed Hylton Key Club, who told about the efforts of their Clubs. Their clubs have already accomplished a lot and have much more planned. With their enthusiasm, it can be safely assumed that everything that they have planned, will probably materialize. |

Dinners for Seniors
As in previous years, the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club sponsored Thanksgiving dinners for the senior citizens of two local community service organizations. These were very worthwhile events, that brought a great deal of satisfaction to those who participated. The Club donated $600 and helped serve the dinner for the Woodbridge Senior Citizen's Center on November 14. The seniors had a very enjoyable time and were well pleased with the dinner, and, with the floral centerpieces for the tables that were made by the members of the Builders Club of the Woodbridge Middle School. Just like the previous year, somehow all the centerpieces rapidly disappeared at the end of the meal. It is assumed that they will end up on another dinner table, this Thanksgiving, which says how much the seniors cherished the pieces. The members of the Builders Club are to be congratulated for their efforts in making this a very memorable occasion for all the seniors. The second dinner was held for the Senior Day Care Program at the Ferlazzo Building, in Woodbridge, VA on November 20. This was a catered event that was paid for by a $600 donation by our Club. Again, the senior citizens were very thankful that we helped make their day an event that they will fondly remember throughout the year. |
Terrific Kids and BUGS Program The Woodbridge Kiwanis Club's Terrific Kids program for 07/08 school year began with the delivery of 100 certificates and pencils to the Enterprise Elementary School, in eastern Prince William County, Virginia, on November 8. Enterprise and Kilby Elementary schools are very active in both of the Terrific Kids and BUGS programs. Our objective is to get a few more elementary schools involved in these programs in the future, as it provides an incentive to the students to have their hard work recognized as a school function. |
