Bethesda Club Co-Sponsors 48th Annual Veterans' Day Observance
by Shira Oler

A cold and damp day did not dampen the spirit of the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda and co-sponsor, American Legion, Fitzgerald Cantrell Post #105, at the 48th annual Veterans' Day ceremony at Bethesda Veterans Park on November 12. The Ceremony was emceed by past Capital District Governor and military veteran, Bob Cressy (left).

Eighteen organizations were represented at the ceremony and participated by placing floral tributes in Veteran's Park in downtown Bethesda. Among those giving remarks were Congressman Chris Van Hollen and the keynote speaker, Lt. Col. Dennis Kennedy, who recently served with the Army in Iraq (right).

A musical tribute was played by the Bethesda Chevy Chase High School Brass Quintet, including "taps," performed by Becca Miller, a sophomore at BCC High School.

The Kiwanis Club of Bethesda works to improve the lives of veterans through several community service projects including support to the Fisher Houseā„¢ Program at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Fisher House, a unique private-public partnership, provides "a home away from home" that enables family members of the military to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time - during hospitalization for an illness, disease, or injury.
