In
her visit to Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club, Dr. Susan
Bunting, Indian River
School District Superintendent, told about the school
district she has been a part of for more than 30
years. The IRSD initiative she is most proud of is
Project
Village (Verbally Intensive Literacy and Learning
Activities). The project provides an early educational
program for
economically challenged qualified three and four
year olds. Many area Hispanic children will benefit
from
the program, which involves family and community
partnerships to promote social and culture awareness.
Rehoboth Beach
Kiwanis Foundation will share in the partnership
through a $2700 gift to fund Imagination Library. Young
children
with no pre-school opportunity will receive a book
monthly until they reach kindergarten with a parent
or other adult contracting to read to them daily.
Initial results show the children in the program are
now 90%
ready for school, compared to previous results where
the children had a 40% readiness rate. Shown are
