Dave Wilson, former Lt.
Gov., Dist. 7-11, and past president of the Wilmington,
DE club, reads to a Head Start Youngster, launching
the club's Reading program for the 5th year, partnering
with READ-ALOUD Delaware. Over those 5 years, the club
has spent over $20,000, distributing about 5,000 books,
books the kids can take home and keep forever, plus
supplying reading materials for use by Head Start
teachers. The programs aim: Foster a love of reading
at an early age. 12 Kiwanians, including Wilmington
Mayor James Baker, took part in the kick-off session,
reading one on one to about 70 youngsters. Phil Arendall,
past president of the club, has spearheaded the program
since its inception.
