Governor Art Riley and First Lady Vickie Visit Southwest Region

It's a long trip from Westminster, MD to the far corner of the Capital District's Southwest Region, but Governor Art and his wife, Vickie, spent the weekend prior to Thanksgiving doing just that -- as part of their official visits to Region 2, 3 and 8. By all measures, the trip was a success. more

Second Key Leader Weekend Set for April 2008
by Babs Lee

The second Capital District Key Leader Weekend has been approved by Kiwanis International. This outstanding student service leadership training will be held April 25 - 27, 2008 at the Arlington Echo Camp facility near Millersville, MD.

All Capital District leaders, all Division Lt. Governors, and all local clubs should begin immediately contacting the youth in the District, not only in the Key Clubs, but any interested current high school student as well. The cost of the 2008 weekend is $175 for non-K Family members, and at $135 for Key Club members. Our goal is to try to double the 41 student participants who attended the 2007 weekend at Camp Letts.

A correction needs to be made to the results of the recently held Camp Letts weekend: Greater Bridge Club in Chesapeake did sponsor two students. They were erroneously reported as having been sponsored by the Chesapeake Club. That means that 15 local clubs sponsored at least two students, with Winchester having sponsored three students and having sent two paying adult advisors. (Way to go Division 19!) As we set a goal of doubling the number of students attending the Second Key Leader Weekend, let us be sure to double the number of sponsoring local clubs.

Members of the Capital District Key Leader Committee will be presenting additional information at the Regional Mid Winter Conferences. Meanwhile, if there are students ready to register, particularly those students whose SAT tests and homecoming games interfered with last Fall's participation, please provide them with the names of a sponsoring club and nominator so they may register right away. LET THE MARKETING FOR ARLINGTON ECHO BEGIN!
