The Kiwanis Club of Washington, DC celebrated its 90th Charter Anniversary in April 2007 which was reported in your e-Builder. What a celebration! Founded in 1917, the club has long been a prime mover in the city in its service program. On May 3rd the club held its 2007 Joe Riley Youth Leadership Awards luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Washington honoring a high school senior from each of the city’s high schools. The Capital District Leadership Conference 2007 is held in Fredericksburg, VA

The annual District Leadership Conference’s (the DLC) purpose is to bring together the next year’s leadership team to formulate their Goals and Objectives for 2007-2008. This is part of the District’s “Three Year Rolling Plan” whereby there is continuity of leadership and direction at all levels – Governors, Lieutenant Governors and Club Presidents – to focus on strengthening our District by helping bring resources and techniques to improve Club membership growth and retention, provide even better support of our Service Leadership Programs, and do more service projects.
Governor Elect Art Riley presents his goals and objectives to the 2007-2008 Capital District team. The “Rolling Three Year Plan” rolls on!
Governor Elect Candidate Tom Ganse, who is also the current New Club Building chair, presents an update of the TAG (Together Achieving Growth) and New Club Building status. Club by club strength is improving dramatically – more growing clubs, more maintaining clubs (that’s good) and less declining membership clubs (that’s good, too!), plus two new clubs (Potomac and Bel Air Clubs in Maryland) and more working. Great leadership, Tom !
PG Warren Kane and Governor Bob at the DLC luncheon: Keep it Rolling!

Governor Bob presents “The State of the District” to the District Leadership Conference attendees. This allows each of the twenty-one Lieutenant Governors, 15 club support chairs and eight District Trustees to see the bigger picture. There is (always) a lot to do to meet our part of the rolling plan. Membership growth for the year, so far, is positive, but we MUST keep up our effort to help Clubs become “Distinguished”. Review the criteria – work your plan. You deserve the title of “Distinguished”. Go For It!

Two of Governor Bob’s Builders key points – (1) The Purpose of growth is to provide more services for communities and children by having more quality members and retaining them, and (2) ‘A.S.K’ing, (Always Selling Kiwanis) allows you to offer the opportunity to others to become a Kiwanian and share the joy you’ve discovered.”
