Around the District

A new CKI Club was Chartered at George Mason University on February 24th. Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Tyson’s Corners, they chartered with 47 members making them instantly the sixth largest CKI club in the Capital District. Congrats!
Capital District Kiwanis Foundation (CDKF) Division 17 Trustee Stan Miller and PG Charlie Adams, a candidate for Kiwanis International Trustee from the Capital District, draw winning tickets for the Caring Corner raffle. Stan is also Past President and Past Treasurer of the Foundation and is from the Olney Kiwanis Club, Maryland. This raffle is at the Potomac Region Mid-Winter Conference held in March for Divisions 1, 17 and 22.
PG Jerry Pueller, also a candidate for Kiwanis International Trustee, picks another winner at the Potomac Mid-Winter. Over $3,300 was raised for the Division & District Foundations! Much of the monies raised at Mid-Winters and all the DCON Ducky Derby tickets and silent auctions are used to fund the seven Children’s Pediatric Hospitals throughout the Capital District.

Atlantic, VA: At the Governor’s Official Visit to Division 15 on March 22nd, Immediate Past LG Ralph Chinn presents the Distinguished Club Award for 2005-2006 to the Kiwanis Club of Chincoteague’s immediate Past President Betty V. Mullins and Secretary Eva Walsh with the congratulations of Gov. Bob Cressy.

A third Distinguished Club in Division 15! LG Barbara Hickman accepts the award for the Kiwanis Club of Pocomoke City for 2005-2006 from Immediate PLG Ralph Chinn. Barbara was also immediate past secretary of the club. With the three club awards, PLG Ralph also becomes a Distinguished Lieutenant Governor! Congratulation to all of you and, most importantly, to ALL these club Kiwanians! It is a great, well deserved honor you have earned!

Division 22 hosted the “2007 Robert A. Heier Service Leadership Program Appreciation Night” on Friday, March 23rd at the Greater Waldorf Jaycee Hall. Pictured is Katie Kreider, the proud recipient of the Division 22 “Teenager of the Year” Award presented by Kiwanian Jenny Plummer, with hearty congratulations from Gov. Bob Cressy. Katie will go on to compete in the District Teenager of the Year Award presented in Rockville at the 89th District Convention.

Service Leadership Programs participants from Kiwanis K-Kids, Builder’s, Key Clubs and CKI reported with pride on the activities their Clubs have accomplished in the last year. Very Impressive, indeed!

A new Kiwanis Club of Bel Air, Maryland is scheduled to Charter on Wednesday, April 18th. The new Kiwanians were so excited to start a club the core group came to the Governor’ Visit to Division 12 way back in October 2006. Congratulation to LG Norton and New Club Building Chair Tom Ganse for their leadership!
The South West Virginia Regional was held March 30-31st in Abingdon. Over eighty Kiwanians and guests, both local and from through out the District enjoyed dinner at the Martha Washington Inn followed by a play at the Barter Theater, “Blythe Spirit” by Noel Coward. LG Jon Rife – Division 8 was the master of ceremonies with First Lady Rita at the SW Region’s dinner.

Immediate Past Governor Yvonne Holley presents the Distinguished Lieutenant Governor Award for 2005-2006 to LG Jim VanHoozier for his leadership of Capital District’s Division 3. An integral part of his team, Jim’s wife Gerry shares the honor. Jim is LG again this year, even when he got it right.
