The Past Governor’s dinner for the Kiwanis International Trustee and Counselor and his wife at the Congressional Country Club opens the 89th Capital District Convention.

The “Bob’s Builder’s” step ladder of tools for the “Toys for Tots” drive by the by the Olney Kiwanis Club was very clever.
The candidate’s campaign to represent the Capital District as its Kiwanis International Trustee candidate in 2009 was spirited.
Capital District Kiwanis Foundation President-Elect Joe Moranto presents the District Foundation and its Founder’s Society to attendees and guests.
Kiwanians-At-Work and Bob’s Builder’s” logo displayed all over the DCON convention Hilton Hotel captures the spirit of the Re-building theme for 2006-2007 and beyond. Fortunately Kiwanians did not have to re-build the hotel before they moved in for the August 16-19th 89th Annual Capital District Convention. It was close.
Meetings
KI Trustee and Counselor to the Capital District offers comments at the District Board meeting on Friday.
Governor Bob presides at the Capital District Board meeting of the District Trustees from all eight regions and the executive officers, with guests in attendance, to conduct the District’s business and reporting.
Honors Reception
PG John Tyner presides at the Capital District’s Honor’s Reception Friday evening. George F. Hixson international awards, district Founder’s Society awards and personal recognition presentations were made to honor Kiwanians.
DCON Chairman PLG Charles Falck receives the Capital District Foundation ‘Founder’s Society’ award for his team leadership of the DCON committee. Great job, Charles!
 DPLG Bernie Gardiner, Division 17, receives a Governor’s Leadership Award from Governor Bob. Bernie received a congratulatory letter from KI President Nelson Tucker for sponsoring over 200 new Kiwanians!

Awards Breakfast — Saturday, August 18th

Montgomery County Police Honor Guard opens the Capital District Convention Awards Breakfast. In addition to the American flag, of course, flags from Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia were present throughout the Convention.
Andy Spense representing the Kiwanis Club of Washington, DC, presented Dr. Jack Delahay, MD, Medical Director of the Kiwanis Orthopedic Clinic at Sibley Hospital in Washington a special club award for his dedication and leadership of the Clinic. They are with Nancy Cressy, an RN at Sibley Hospital, and Master of Ceremonies Bud Zimmerman, LG Division 22.
Hilton Hotel and Executive Conference Center General Manager Michael Hirsh smiles with Governor Bob because, in the end, “‘Bob’s Builders” didn’t have to build the hotel. Whew! P.S. Maybe you guys should trade hard hats? Nice fit.
Hilton Hotel General manager Michael Hirsh presents a $1,000 contribution commitment letter to the Capital District Founder’s Society to thank us for being with them and our understanding and patience with the remodeling. All was completed except for the Atrium. The guest rooms, meeting rooms and the meals were excellent and 590 registered with many additional guests. Great turnout! Thanks, again!
PG John Tyner has received the “Founder’s Circle Award” from Kiwanis International Foundation for having contributed over $25,000 thus far to the KIF. PG Hugh Siggins is also a “Founder’s Circle” award recipient.
Dr. Jack Delahay, our Awards Breakfast speaker, is awarded special recognition from the Washington, DC, club and an “Honorary Founder’s Society” award from the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation for his thirty-four (34) years of dedicated service to the Kiwanis Clinic at Sibley Hospital.
Fellowship Luncheon — Saturday, August 18th

Fellowship Luncheon MC Lieutenant Governor Betty Gardiner, Governor Bob, and Immediate Past Governor Yvonne Holley who presented additional awards for her 2005-2006 district team. Under Yvonne’s leadership, the Capital District received Kiwanis International recognition as an “Outstanding District for 2005-2006”. Congratulations!
Kiwanis International Trustee Stan L. Storey brings official Kiwanis greetings to the Capital District and thanks us for our hospitality and friendship. You are welcome, Stan and Elizabeth.
COL Gray Heppner, MD, addresses our luncheon as Keynote Speaker. He is world-renowned for his work toward eradicating malaria, the number one killer disease today. COL Heppner is the Director of Malaria Vaccine Development at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. He is also the brother of David Heppner, LG of Division 2.
COL Heppner is presented an “Honorary Founder’s Society” membership by Governor Bob and Past Governor John Tyner.

Jack and Vivian Kruger celebrated their fourth anniversary at DCON! They got engaged at the 2003 DCON also in Rockville. Congratulations from Nancy, Bob and all Kiwanians!

Convention Caucus — August 19th
Governor Bob receives his ‘Certificate of Election and Recognition’ for having served as Capital District Governor. First Lady Nancy receives a dozen roses for her dedication to Kiwanis. Both were presented by International Trustee Stan Storey. Thank you, Stan. And Thank You Capital District for the Honor and Privilege of serving you!

Governor-Elect 2007-2008 Tom Ganse is installed by Trustee Stan Storey who participated in the retirement of 2006-2007 lieutenant governors with Governor Bob and the installation of the 2007-2008 Lieutenant governor’s with Art Riley. The District Trustees were also installed for the next year. That’s a completed building project! Thanks!    
New Kiwanis Club of Toano Chartered August 25th
The new Kiwanis Club of Toano, Virginia, charters with forty-eight (48) new members! Wow! Master of Ceremonies for the spectacular Charter Night was a proud Lieutenant Governor Brian Wilson of Division 23.
Every new club must have a sponsoring club. Leading the organization of the new Toano club are (L to R) the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg’s Past President Scott Zimmerman, Past Governor and KIF Trustee Hugh Siggins, current President Larry Murphy and PLG Carla Morin.
