Mitchellville
and Great Landover Clubs Partner with Nonprofit to Improve
Childrens' Health
by Astril Webb
As Kiwanins we are networking
to build stronger communities and increase awareness
about Kiwanis International and the Capital Distrist
supporting Childhood Obesity. A few weeks ago, Dr.
Astril Webb (right) and our incoming Regional Trustee
and Past LT. Governor Doris Montgomery, both members
of the Greater Landover Kiwanis Club, attended a morning
meeting held by Mitchellville Kiwanis Club in Division
One. Their meeting was held at Collington Manor in
Mitchillville, MD. Dr. Astril Webb made an eloquent
presentation on Childhood Obesity. Dr. Webb is supporting
chair for Governor Art Riley's project on Childhood
Obesity. Dr. Astril Webb is also the founder and Chairman
of Healthy Kinder, Inc., a non profit organization
which promotes healthy lifestyles for children. The
Kiwanis Club of Mitchellville and Greater Landover
are partnering with Healthy Kinder, Inc. to build a
playground for a local shelter for children in Prince
Georges County. This will be a community Kiwanis One
day project. This is a prime example of how Kiwanians are working together to increase visibility and bring hope
in our local communities. Remember, working together
is progress, one child and community at a time.

Final plans are underway for the Second Capital District Key Leader Weekend being
held April 25-27th at Arlington Echo in Millersville, MD.
The menus have been selected, the camp visited by Capital
District Key Leader leadership, and registration well underway.
All we need are for the Kiwanis Clubs to be sure their sponsored
youth participants are getting registered and subsequent
invoices paid.
