Ocean
Pines/Ocean City Club Learns That Salvation Army Helps
Children
by D. L. Landis
The speaker at the weekly
Kiwanis meeting was Captain Cameron Henderson of the
Salvation Army stationed in Salisbury. He's pictured
with Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines/Ocean City
President Ed Schaefer receiving the customary Kiwanis
pen given to all speakers. Captain Henderson explained
that the Salvation Army determines the needs of the
local community and focuses on ministering to those
needs. Children are one of those big needs locally.
Part of their operation are four regional Youth Clubs
in Salisbury, West Salisbury, Pocomoke City and Crisfield
where over 2000 children are served. Since the goal
of Kiwanis is "Serving the Children of the World" it was great to learn of the common interest between the two organizations.
Captain Henderson also thanked all the members of the
local Kiwanis Club for their efforts at Christmastime
when perform the bell ringing at the local Wal-Mart
on Route 50. The club won awards for 1st place for
contributions collected by Service Clubs for 2006 and
2007 which were presented to Kiwanis at a dinner in
February 2008.

Final plans are underway for the Second Capital District Key Leader Weekend being
held April 25-27th at Arlington Echo in Millersville, MD.
The menus have been selected, the camp visited by Capital
District Key Leader leadership, and registration well underway.
All we need are for the Kiwanis Clubs to be sure their sponsored
youth participants are getting registered and subsequent
invoices paid.
