Newark
Club Key Clubs Active

Dick Holmes
The Newark Delaware Key Club (right),
sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Wilmington, has been
keeping busy, helping others and at the recent Winter
Conference in Maryland they joined with other high school
students in making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
for nearby shelters.
The Charter High Key Club is also sponsored by the
Wilmington club. Charter High School is also taking
on worthwhile projects: Volunteering at the Newark
Food Bank, helping at the Delaware Women's Conference,
and supplying helping hands for the 20th Annual Red
Clay Valley cleanup. They've also started a unique
way to raise money for community-based education in
Pakistan and Afghanistan - "Pennies
for Peace." They've placed plastic jars in every Charter home room for students to deposit
their loose change, but they're adding a clever twist.
For every penny collected the home room earns a point-
however, they lose points for having any coin other
than a penny. So, one home room can sabotage another
by dumping dimes and quarters into other home room
jar. A cool prize goes to the home room with the most
points.

Final plans are underway for the Second Capital District Key Leader Weekend being
held April 25-27th at Arlington Echo in Millersville, MD.
The menus have been selected, the camp visited by Capital
District Key Leader leadership, and registration well underway.
All we need are for the Kiwanis Clubs to be sure their sponsored
youth participants are getting registered and subsequent
invoices paid.
